You need to first identify what type of RAM is needed for your desktop. You will mostly install the memory for speeding up your computer. This is a very simple process that takes only a few minutes.
After switching off the power, open the computer case. Locater the computer’s memory sockets in your motherboard. You have to touch electrical components and hence you have to release the static energy in your body by touching unpainted metallic plate. Then you can take the memory module for inserting into the socket. Never touch the central magnetic strips. Handle the component by holding at the edges. The socket in the motherboard should align with the memory module. You will have a curved notch in the module and you can use that to fit the module to the memory slot.
While inserting the module, insert at slight angles. Make sure that the module is completely placed within the socket. You should not push it hard to fit the module within the socket. Any forced insertion will cause damage to the module making it useless. The socket will have clips at the end and ensure that the module is clamped by these clips. By gently turning the module, you can lock it within the socket. The installation process is now complete and you can boot the system to check if the memory module shows up in the properties.
