When you have large files, they take up more disk space. To reduce the amount of storage and for easy file transmission, you have to compress the files so that they take lesser space. Also, you can combine a large number of files in a single archive and transfer all the files with a single click. This compression is done by many file compressors and the common software’s are winzip and winrar. The files compressed using these two software will have zip and rar extensions respectively.
To zip or rar files, you need to have winzip or winrar installed in your system. These are not completely free and you have to pay for the software after the trail period. To zip/rar a number of files, you have to assemble all the files into a single folder. This can be done by moving all the files to the new folder. Then right click on the file to open the pop up menu. If you have winzip, click on winzip -> Add to Zip file… in the pop up menu. If you have winrar, click on ‘Add to archive…’ in the pop up menu. After selecting this option, you will be asked for the name of zip/rar file. The compressed file will be formed within seconds and you can find that the amount of disk space required is very less. You can then use the same software to unzip/unrar the files.
